A Four Season Recreation Area

In the Spring: Moosehead Lake is the largest fresh water lake in the Northeast – 40 miles long and 20 miles wide. The deep clear water is the natural home of salmon, trout and togue. The lake opens for fishing at ice-out (usually early May). Moose are plentiful and easily seen along the roads this time of year. Come visit for the annual Moose Mainea celebration.

In the Summer: Summer is a beautiful time of year in the Moosehead Lake area. Popular activities are Boating, Hiking, Swimming Fishing, Whitewater Rafting or just relax and listen to the loons.

Great ways to see the area include a scenic seaplane ride, a cruise aboard the restored steamship Katahdin, a moose safari or the scenic chairlift at Big Squaw Mountain.

In the Fall: The trees are beautiful and the changing of colors is an experience that should not be missed. This is a quiet and peaceful time of year.
